FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Every Question
Answered Honestly.

If something about the service is unclear, the answer is here. If it isn't, write to us — we respond within one business day.

What exactly does BookFilms.TV produce?

BookFilms.TV produces animated short films adapted from books. This is a film adaptation service — not a slideshow, not a page-turn video, not a read-aloud with background music. Each production begins with a manuscript and ends with a complete cinematic animated film: structured for screen, voiced, scored, and delivered at Full HD or 4K resolution.

The adaptation process restructures the manuscript for film — narrative passages become visual scenes, dialogue is performed by custom-voiced characters with frame-accurate lip-sync, and the emotional arc of the story is built into the editorial pacing of the finished piece. The result functions as a standalone short film that originates from a book but is not dependent on the book to be understood or experienced.

What kinds of books does BookFilms.TV adapt?

The primary focus is children's books across all formats — illustrated picture books, early readers, chapter books, and short novels. All formats are accepted, including titles with limited or no existing illustrations, where the studio develops the full visual world from the manuscript as part of the adaptation process.

The service also accepts non-children's titles, provided the output is animated rather than photorealistic live-action. Animation is the studio's medium — it is not a constraint applied to certain content categories but the craft at the center of everything BookFilms.TV produces.

Can you adapt a book that has no illustrations?

Yes. Books with limited or no existing illustrations are fully accommodated. When no visual reference exists, the studio develops all character design, backgrounds, environments, and visual elements from the manuscript itself, using your chosen animation style as the visual blueprint. This development work is included in the production cost — there is no additional charge for visual development on unillustrated or lightly illustrated titles.

Is this service right for a picture book, or is it designed for longer books?

It is designed for both, and the production tier structure reflects that. Picture books and shorter illustrated titles adapt naturally at the Spark ($999) or Spotlight ($1,799) tier — two to three and a half minutes is the right cinematic length for a story that unfolds in a single sitting. Early chapter books and longer illustrated titles tend to find their scale at the Showreel ($2,499). Chapter books, short novels, and publisher-grade campaign assets belong in Feature ($4,999) or Premiere ($9,999) territory.

If you are uncertain which tier fits your specific book, contact the studio before ordering. We will give you an honest recommendation.

Who is this service for?

Children's book authors, children's book publishers, literary agents representing illustrated or narrative children's titles, and any author or publisher seeking an animated adaptation of a book. Publishers working across a seasonal list, authors building a marketing presence for a debut or backlist title, and agents positioning a property for licensing or screen adaptation are all established client profiles.

Non-children's book authors whose work is suited to animated rather than live-action adaptation are also welcome to inquire.

How is BookFilms.TV different from a standard book video service?

Three differences are fundamental.

First, this is a film adaptation — the manuscript is restructured for screen rather than illustrated in sequence or read aloud over moving images. The result is a piece of work with screenplay logic: scene structure, character performance, editorial pacing, and the kind of narrative architecture that makes an audience engage rather than observe.

Second, every film includes original composition — the score is written for your specific production, not drawn from a licensed library. This is unusual in book video production and it shows in the finished work.

Third, the storyboard gate. No frame of animation is produced until you have reviewed and approved the full adaptation storyboard and character references. You see the film before it is made and approve it before it begins. Most services do not operate this way.

Does BookFilms.TV produce live-action video?

No. BookFilms.TV is an animation studio. Animation is the medium, the craft, and the identity of everything produced here. Live-action and photorealistic rendering are outside the studio's scope.

Is BookFilms.TV connected to Book Trailers TV?

Yes. BookFilms.TV is the animated film division of NexFrame Studios. Book Trailers TV — at booktrailers.tv — is the studio's cinematic book trailer service, producing short-form promotional trailers for authors and publishers across all genres. The two services share a production company and a standard of work. For authors or publishers who want both a cinematic book trailer and an animated film adaptation, both services are available from the same studio.

Can BookFilms.TV adapt a novel or a book that isn't a children's title?

BookFilms.TV is an animation studio — animation is the medium at the center of every production made here. The service is designed primarily for children's books across all formats, and the studio's animation styles, production process, and pricing structure are built around that focus.

Animated adaptations of non-children's titles are considered on a case-by-case basis, provided the content is genuinely suited to an animated format. Not every adult narrative is, but some are — and those inquiries are welcome.

For authors of adult or young adult novels seeking a cinematic short film adaptation in a non-animated format, NexFrame Studios handles these requests separately and outside the BookFilms.TV production framework. The same package structure and pricing apply. To explore whether your title is a good fit, reach out via the contact page with a brief description of your book and a link to your manuscript or Amazon listing before placing any order. The studio will give you an honest assessment of fit and available production options before any commitment is made.

ABOUT THE SERVICE

ANIMATION STYLES

How many animation styles are available?

Eight established animation styles are available: 3D Cinematic, Classic Animation, Storybook Watercolor, Anime, Modern Cartoon, Comic Book, Claymation, and Pastoral Animation. A ninth option — preservation of your book's original illustration style — is also available for illustrated titles. All options are included at no additional cost.

Full descriptions, visual characteristics, and best-fit guidance for each style are on the Animation Styles page.

Can I keep my book's original illustration style?

Yes. If your book has a distinctive illustration identity that you want preserved and extended into animation, the studio will study the illustrator's visual language — line weight, color relationships, character proportions, background treatment — and animate faithfully within it. This includes scenes and angles the original illustrations never depicted, built from the visual logic of the existing art.

Preserving an original illustration style is a production-level commitment, not a filter applied at the end. It is treated with the same craft attention as any of the eight established styles.

What if none of the eight styles fits my book?

Describe your visual direction in the order intake form or contact the studio before ordering. Custom visual directions are interpreted during the storyboard phase — the studio develops character and world references from your description before any production begins. There is no additional cost for working from a custom direction, and the storyboard phase exists precisely to resolve these questions before they become production decisions.

When do I choose my animation style?

You indicate a preference at the time of ordering — or note that you are undecided. The style is confirmed during the storyboard phase, when the studio applies your chosen approach visually and you see your characters and world rendered in it for the first time. Style adjustments are accommodated at this stage without additional cost. The style is locked when you approve the storyboard and release production.

Can I change the animation style after the storyboard is approved?

Style changes after storyboard approval but before production completion are treated as major revisions and charged at $129 per affected scene. Style changes after final delivery are not available under the standard production agreement. This is why the storyboard phase exists — to resolve style decisions before they become production costs.

Do different animation styles cost different amounts?

No. All eight styles and the original illustration preservation option are included in the base production cost of every tier. The animation style you choose does not affect the price of your production.

How do I place an order?

Select a production tier on the Films page, complete the order and proceed to checkout. After purchase, you will receive an intake form requesting your manuscript, book cover, Amazon URL if available, animation style preference, and any add-on details. Submit the completed form and the studio begins work on your adaptation storyboard.

What do I need to submit to begin production?

Four things: your full manuscript — including high-resolution illustration files if the book is illustrated — your book cover at high resolution, your Amazon listing URL if the book is published, and your animation style preference or a note that you'd like to preserve your original illustration style. That is everything the studio needs to build the storyboard. No creative brief, no shot list, no production document.

Can I order multiple language versions at the same time as my film?

Yes, and this is the recommended approach. Language versions ordered simultaneously with the primary film are produced concurrently and delivered together at no additional lead time. The language version surcharge — approximately 25% of your base package price per language — is the only additional cost.

Can I order a language version after my film has been delivered?

Yes. Language versions ordered after delivery carry the same lead time as the original production — one week for Spark, two for Spotlight, three for Showreel, two weeks for Feature, and one month for Premiere. The surcharge is the same regardless of when the language version is ordered.

Can I order trailer add-ons after my film has been delivered?

Trailer add-ons are available alongside or after the primary film order. When ordered alongside the film, they are produced concurrently using the same production assets, which maximizes editorial efficiency. Post-delivery trailer orders are accommodated but may carry a slightly longer lead time depending on current production scheduling.

Can I order more than one production for different books simultaneously?

Yes. Contact the studio before placing multiple simultaneous orders to confirm scheduling and discuss any volume considerations. Publisher volume pricing is available for multiple title orders — details on request.

What happens if I need to cancel after ordering?

If you cancel after the storyboard has been delivered but before you have approved pilot scenes, a cancellation fee of $49 applies to cover the adaptation and design work completed. Once you approve the pilot scenes, the order is final and no cancellation or refund is available. Cancellations before storyboard delivery are processed in full.

ORDERING & WORKFLOW

REVISIONS & DELIVERY

How many revisions are included?

One revision is included with every order at every production tier. The included revision covers minor adjustments — changes to on-screen text overlays, narrator voiceover timing, or music timing. These revisions do not require reworking animation and are incorporated efficiently.

What is the difference between a minor and a major revision?

A minor revision involves adjustments that do not require reworking animation: on-screen text changes, voiceover timing adjustments, or music timing shifts. One minor revision is included with every order.

A major revision involves reworking scenes — changing voice design, replacing background music, restructuring animation, or altering the editorial assembly of one or more scenes. Major revisions are charged at a flat rate of $129 per affected scene, applicable to all production tiers. The scope and cost of any major revision is confirmed with you before the work begins.

What if I am not satisfied with the finished film?

The storyboard approval process is designed to prevent this outcome. Before a frame of animation is produced, you have reviewed and approved the full adaptation structure and character design. If the delivered film faithfully reflects the approved storyboard — which it will — then the revision process addresses any refinements.

If you believe the delivered film materially departs from the approved storyboard, contact the studio immediately. Departures from approved materials are addressed at no additional cost.

How is the finished film delivered?

Via Google Drive or Proton Drive — a shared cloud storage folder containing all deliverables at the full resolution specified by your production tier. No watermarks. No compressed previews. The delivery is the finished film. Cloud storage access is maintained for one week from delivery — download your files promptly.

What file formats are included in delivery?

All films are delivered as MP4 video files. Production stills, if requested within 30 days of delivery, are provided as PNG files. All files are print-ready and broadcast-quality at the resolution of your production tier.

Can I request production stills after delivery?

Yes — within 30 days of final delivery. High-resolution, print-ready production stills are available upon request at no additional cost. They are suitable for book republication, press kits, marketing materials, and any other print or digital use. Any unrequested production assets are permanently deleted after 30 days.

Are rush productions available?

Rush production is not currently available. If you are working to a specific launch date, contact the studio before ordering to confirm whether the standard production timeline accommodates your schedule. Lead times run from storyboard approval, not from the order date — factor in two to three business days for the storyboard exchange when planning to a deadline.

RIGHTS & LICENSING

Who owns the finished film?

You do. Upon final delivery, full commercial ownership of the animated film and all its components — the animation, the score, the voiceover recordings, and every production element — transfers to the author or publisher who commissioned the work. BookFilms.TV retains no ownership interest, licensing claim, or ongoing rights in the delivered materials.

Are there any usage restrictions on the finished film?

None. You may use the delivered film — and all production components — for marketing, advertising, social media, retail platforms, educational licensing, theatrical presentation, streaming distribution, curriculum materials, press distribution, or any other commercial or non-commercial purpose, without restriction and without further payment to BookFilms.TV.

Can BookFilms.TV use my film in its portfolio or promotional materials?

The studio may display finished films as portfolio samples unless you request otherwise at the time of delivery. If your production is under embargo — for a forthcoming title, a confidential project, or any other reason — note this at the time of ordering and the studio will withhold the film from any public display until you confirm clearance.

Can I include a publisher logo in the film?

Yes. A publisher or studio logo can be included in the film or trailer upon request. Indicate this preference during the intake process or at the storyboard stage.

Can the film be submitted to festivals or licensed to educational platforms?

Yes. The film is yours, completely and commercially. Festival submissions, educational platform licensing, streaming distribution, theatrical screening, and any other exhibition context are all within your rights as the owner of the delivered work. No additional clearance from BookFilms.TV is required.

LANGUAGES

Which languages are available for additional language versions?

Twenty-eight languages are currently available: Chinese, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, Korean, Indonesian, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Swedish, Filipino, Malay, Romanian, Ukrainian, Greek, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Bulgarian, Croatian, Slovak, and Tamil.

Is an additional language version a dubbed track or a full production?

A full production. Each language version is a complete lip-synced adaptation — characters are voiced in the target language by matched voice performers, lip-sync is frame-accurate throughout, and the character voice consistency of the original English production is preserved. It is not a subtitle overlay. It is not a dubbed track cut to the original timing. It is a production in the target language, built to the same standard as the primary film.

How much does an additional language version cost?

Approximately 25% of your base package price per language. For the Spark ($999), a language version is approximately $250. For the Spotlight ($1,799), approximately $450. For the Showreel ($2,499), approximately $625. For the Feature ($4,999), approximately $1,250. For the Premiere ($9,999), approximately $2,500.

Will lip-sync be perfect in every language?

Lip-sync is optimized for the highest possible accuracy in every language version. However, natural differences in how languages express the same content — different syllable counts, different speech rhythms, different sentence lengths — mean that perfect frame-accurate alignment in every scene across every language cannot be guaranteed. In cases where significant timing adjustments are required, these will be communicated during production. Minor variations in lip-sync precision are a normal characteristic of multilingual animation and do not affect the overall quality of the production.

Can I order a language version in a language not on the list?

Contact the studio with your specific language requirement. The current list of 28 languages reflects established production capacity. Requests for languages outside the list are evaluated individually — availability depends on voice talent and production resources at the time of your order.

TECHNICAL SPECS

What resolution are the films delivered in?

Spark, Spotlight, and Showreel productions are delivered in Full HD — 1920×1080 pixels, 1080p. Feature and Premiere productions are delivered in 4K — 3840×2160 pixels, 2160p. A 4K upgrade is available for Spark, Spotlight, and Showreel at approximately 7% of the base package price.

What aspect ratio are the films delivered in?

All films are delivered in 16:9 widescreen — the standard cinematic aspect ratio for digital distribution, streaming platforms, YouTube, and television. The 90-second trailer add-on is additionally delivered in 1:1 square format for social media platforms.

What file format are films delivered in?

MP4. This is the universal standard for digital video distribution — compatible with every major platform, device, streaming service, and social media channel without conversion.

What is the difference between Full HD and 4K for practical purposes?

Full HD (1080p) is the standard for social media, websites, retail platforms, and general digital distribution. It is the correct resolution for the vast majority of marketing and promotional uses. 4K (2160p) is the standard for YouTube premium distribution, television broadcast, theatrical projection, and any exhibition context where the highest possible image quality is required. For most children's book marketing purposes, Full HD is entirely sufficient. For publisher-grade assets intended for long-term distribution or broadcast use, 4K is the appropriate choice — which is why it is standard on the Feature and Premiere tiers.

What does 'scenes' mean in the production context?

A scene is the fundamental unit of production — a continuous visual sequence averaging five to six seconds of finished animation, typically comprising two to three camera angles or shots for cinematic depth. Scene count determines the total runtime of the film: twenty scenes at the Spark produces approximately two minutes of finished animation; two hundred scenes at the Premiere produces approximately twenty minutes. Scene lengths may vary depending on pacing, dialogue density, and cinematic structure — the figures given are averages across a full production.

Can the finished film be uploaded directly to YouTube, Amazon, or streaming platforms?

Yes. MP4 delivery at Full HD or 4K meets the technical specifications of every major platform — YouTube, Amazon Video, Vimeo, and standard streaming services. No conversion, compression, or post-production work is required before upload. The delivered file is platform-ready from delivery.
